3-year research results of Living@Sea to be presented at WCFS2020
Since 2017, DeltaSync and Blue21 have been leading Work Package 7- Living@Sea within the 3-year EU Horizon2020 funded research project, Space@Sea (2017-2020).
The work package aims to address the conceptualization of marine floating islands that are intended for human habitation, including living, working and recreation. These floating islands could be located on the high seas, near economic marine activity, or closer to shore, as an extension of existing cities or port areas.
Although knowledge about floating offshore accommodation in the oil and shipping industry and floating urbanization on calm inland and coastal areas are already available, there is a knowledge gap between the two. Together with ICE-Marine Design, University of Rostock, MARIN and Waterstudio, DeltaSync and Blue21 have investigated the functional, technical, comfort and safety requirements of Living@Sea, created concept designs and studied social acceptance of future inhabitants on the floating islands. Moreover, the preliminary business case for Living@Sea has also been explored and made. These results will be presented at the conference which Blue21 takes the leading role in organizing, “Paving the Waves- 2nd World Conference on Floating Solutions 2020 (WCFS2020)” in Rotterdam from 6-8 October. Join us at the event and learn more about the state-of-the-art floating solutions!
