Inspire the next generation today – Blue21 guest lecture at TU Delft

On June 7, Dr. Ir. Rui Gomes, Maritime Engineer and the Head of Blue21 Engineering, delivered an insightful guest lecture on floating structures to MSc students at Delft University of Technology.

Dr. Gomes was invited to speak to master students from the ”Floating and Submerged Structures” module in the master program of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. This unique module was initiated by visionary researchers, Dr. Oriol Colomés, MSc. Frank Lange, and Dr. Shagun Agarwal. The guest lecture aims to bridge industry knowledge and academic learning in an emerging market.
With this lecture Dr. Gomes aimed to motivate and inspire the young talented engineers on the needs and possibilities to develop a sustainable and climate-resilient built environment on the water.

Students in this course gain skills to analyze and design resilient structures such as floating submerged tunnels, floating islands, and offshore structures. As a global leader in floating urban and maritime development, Blue21 is proud to support the education of future engineers.

Dr. Gomes presented Blue21’s vision and highlighted several exciting projects, sparking enthusiasm and interest in floating city development among the students. He also discussed technical challenges and opportunities for further research, helping students understand how their expertise can contribute to a sustainable floating future for humanity in the 21st century.
