Imagine your own sustainable and affordable workspace at sea. This is what 17 European partners aim to provide by developing a standardized and cost efficient modular island with low ecological impact.
The project consists of 4 applications of study; farming, transport and logistics hub, energy hub and living at sea. To show the potential of multi-use modular floating islands [email protected] evaluates 3 possible business cases for various locations throughout Europe.
The three main stakeholder groups identified are governments, end users and investors. Accordingly, we engage with governments across various chosen European countries on their level of open-mindedness towards floating developments to jointly develop recommendations on how to treat floating coastal city expansions in the future.
The project is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program. It began in November 2017 and is setting out to make the next step in the efficient use of maritime environments. Blue21 is involved as work-package leader.
